Draw the data flow
List checkout surfaces, payment providers, integrations and administrators. Record what your organization stores, processes, transmits or remains responsible for.
Link evidence after scope review
After a person declares PCI DSS applicable, Fencia shows a mapped v4.0.1 checklist. Link control records, owners and reviewed decisions. Readiness is not an automated PCI scan.
Validate outside Fencia
Fencia does not select a self-assessment questionnaire, assess the cardholder environment or issue an attestation. Use PCI SSC and acquirer instructions for validation.
Example: a hosted checkout and an AI support bot
A SaaS company uses a hosted payment page and an AI support bot that sometimes handles billing questions. The team documents what the checkout page and bot can see, which provider processes card data and whether support messages may include account information. It asks its acquirer or qualified assessor which PCI DSS responsibilities remain. Only then does it activate the optional Fencia map and link the relevant evidence. A hosted checkout alone is not proof of no PCI obligations.
Define scope before collecting evidence
- Diagram payment pages, redirects, integrations, vendors and support channels.
- Identify any account data that staff, AI tools or connected systems can access.
- Document outsourced services and the responsibilities retained by your organization.
- Record the scope decision, assessor guidance and evidence owner for each relevant requirement.
Common questions
- Does outsourcing all card processing remove PCI DSS responsibilities?
- Not automatically. PCI SSC explains that merchants who outsource processing can still have applicable requirements. Confirm your specific scope with the appropriate parties.
- Does Fencia choose the right validation form?
- No. Fencia provides a human-activated evidence map, not a scope determination, self-assessment questionnaire selection or attestation.
